The biggest trip to date. 50+ alumni on the mountain. Four resorts. The pinnacle of American ski culture.
January 2025 was the KSU Alumni Ski & Snowboard Club's biggest alumni ski trip to date — 50+ Kent State alumni descended on the Aspen/Snowmass area for a week on the most iconic ski terrain in America. The Aspen name carries weight for a reason: four world-class mountains, a legendary après ski scene, and the kind of skiing that earns its reputation every single day. We partnered again with OutsideLife to make it happen.
The Aspen/Snowmass trip marked a new milestone for the KSU alumni ski trip — the largest group we'd ever brought together. Snowmass served as the home base for most of the week with its massive 3,332 acres of terrain, while the bold ones made day trips to Aspen Mountain's steep groomed runs and Aspen Highlands' legendary Highland Bowl. The après ski scene in Aspen lived up to every expectation. This is the trip that raised the bar.
Aspen and Snowmass represent the pinnacle of American ski culture. Four interconnected mountains — Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass — offer a combined 5,527 acres of skiable terrain and enough variety to keep any group busy for a week without repeating the same run twice. Snowmass alone, at 3,332 acres, is one of the largest ski areas in North America.
Aspen Mountain's steep, perfectly groomed frontside runs are some of the most satisfying carving terrain in Colorado. Aspen Highlands delivers Highland Bowl — a legitimate backcountry experience accessed via a 45-minute bootpack — that draws expert skiers and snowboarders from around the world. Buttermilk is a haven for beginners and terrain park riders. Snowmass handles everything in between, with massive beginner zones, long cruising runs, and expert glades that reward exploration.
Off the mountain, the town of Aspen is in a category of its own for après ski. World-class dining, historic bars that have been part of ski culture for decades, and an energy that is uniquely Aspen. For the KSU alumni group ski trip, Aspen/Snowmass delivered on every dimension — terrain, town, and the biggest group we have ever brought to a mountain. It set the standard for every trip to come.
The Viewline Resort Snowmass is the pinnacle of mountain lodging — a slopeside Autograph Collection hotel sitting directly on the Snowmass ski area with ski-in/ski-out access from your door. Contemporary mountain design with a 1960s flair, floor-to-ceiling windows, and views that make it hard to get out of bed in the morning. For the KSU alumni group, it put everyone steps from the lifts and steps from each other.
